Guntur: Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) founder president Manda Krishna Madiga demanded withdrawal of the Presidential Order which denies Scheduled Caste status to Dalit Christians.
He stated that this order is completely against Article 25 of the Constitution. Addressing the media here on Tuesday, he further clarified that it also contradicts Articles 14 and 15, which guarantee equality and prohibit discrimination. He demanded the repeal of the 1950 Presidential Order.
He stated that if there is an intention to uphold only one religious system, then laws should be removed and people should be allowed to follow their beliefs independently. Otherwise, Articles 14, 15, and 25 must be respected, or the presidential order must be withdrawn.
He alleged that the order reflects discrimination against Dalits and shows a prejudiced attitude towards them. He said that Dalits continue to be the primary victims of the caste system.
He questioned why discrimination exists specifically against Madigas when various communities are grouped together in different categories. He cited examples of classifications in BC categories and EWS groups, stating that multiple communities coexist without such discrimination.
He alleged that poor Dalit Christians are being harassed and highlighted disparities within religious institutions, claiming that many influential pastors come from upper castes, while Dalit pastors face hardships. He warned that any injustice against Dalit Christians would not be tolerated and described the issue as one of self-respect for the Madiga community.
