Penukonda: A major drinking water infrastructure project under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, estimated at Rs 100.69 crore, was launched in Penukonda Municipality on Wednesday.

The foundation stone was laid by Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad, Minister Savithamma, Hindupur MP BK Parthasarathi, and Sri Sathya Sai District Collector A Shyam Prasad. The massive project aims to overhaul and strengthen the drinking water supply system across Penukonda and surrounding areas.

Speaking at the gathering, Minister Savitha stated that the project was sanctioned keeping in mind the town's rising population and the escalating water requirements driven by industrial growth, particularly around the nearby Kia manufacturing ecosystem. She recalled the region's historical water scarcity that once forced mass migrations, affirming that this project will deliver a permanent solution to ensure safe drinking water reaches every household.

During the event, the Ministers also distributed land ownership documents to local beneficiaries. Minister Savitha highlighted the smooth rollout of welfare schemes like Talliki Vandanam and Deepam 2.0, while Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad reiterated the government's commitment to timely monthly pension distribution and balanced regional development. Hindupur MP BK Parthasarathi noted that the project would bring permanent relief to peripheral villages like Venkatreddypalli, Konapuram, Seefaram, and Venkatapuram. District Collector A Shyam Prasad urged residents to eliminate water wastage and maintain urban cleanliness to help transform Penukonda into a model municipality. The mega launch was attended by public representatives, local officials, and executives from Jindal Industries.
