Addressing the media here on Saturday, the MLC alleged that public funds are being grossly misused through highly inflated bills for planting saplings that provide minimal benefit to citizens. He claimed that nearly 48,000 saplings are being planted at an exorbitant cost of around Rs 12,000 per plant. In the first phase alone, 14,741 saplings were reportedly planted at a cost of Rs 8.03 crore. According to the MLC, Rs 5,446 is being spent per sapling including tree guards, while an additional Rs 6,888 is charged for watering each plant. He pointed out that during the previous YSRCP government, the cost was just Rs 750 per sapling. Chandrasekhar Reddy alleged that contracts for the work were awarded to 25 contractors closely linked to the ruling party. He further accused the Minister's team of widespread irregularities in several civic projects, including smart street vending, traffic signals, bio-toilets, garbage transportation, silt cleaning, mosquito control, and road works. Many nominated contracts worth hundreds of crores, he said, lacked transparency.

The MLC questioned the logic of planting saplings on both sides of narrow 12-foot roads and alleged that in some cases, plants were placed on private land while bills were claimed for public spaces. He also pointed out that many saplings lacked proper tree guards and were planted under electric lines. The drive, he claimed, is being carried out in peak summer with little concern for survival, suggesting the real motive is bill generation rather than greenery. Chandrasekhar Reddy alleged that public money is being diverted to benefit ruling party functionaries instead of genuine city development. He has demanded a thorough enquiry into all irregularities by the Minister's team.
