Mumbai: Veteran actor and television host Shekhar Suman reminisced about one of the most unforgettable moments of his career, revealing how a late-night phone call from Bal Thackeray led to a historic interview on his iconic talk show Movers & Shakers.
In an exclusive conversation with one of the leading news agencies , Shekhar shared that the Shiv Sena founder personally called him at around 3 AM after watching an episode of the show. Praising his hosting skills, Bal Thackeray reportedly told him that he was doing an excellent job.
Sensing a rare opportunity, Shekhar immediately invited the political stalwart to appear on his show. To his surprise, Thackeray readily agreed and asked when he should come for the interview. The meeting was soon arranged, marking a significant moment as it was one of Thackeray's rare appearances on a television platform.
Recalling the interaction, Shekhar revealed that the conversation was so engaging and enjoyable that Bal Thackeray expressed a desire to record another episode immediately after finishing the first one. Despite logistical constraints, the spontaneity of the moment left a lasting impression on the actor.
Describing it as one of the most cherished experiences of his career, Shekhar said the warmth and candidness of the interaction made it truly special and unforgettable.
During the discussion, Shekhar Suman also raised concerns over the declining command of the Hindi language in the entertainment industry. He stressed that language, speech, and acting are deeply interconnected, and pointed out that many contemporary actors struggle with basic pronunciation.
Drawing comparisons with legendary performers such as Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan, he highlighted how their mastery over language significantly contributed to their iconic status. He further referenced global stars like Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Anthony Hopkins, noting that their excellence in speech and expression played a vital role in their success.
Shekhar concluded by emphasising that acting, language, and behaviour evolve together, and neglecting any one of these aspects can impact the overall craft.
