Rajamahendravaram: Settibalija Corporation Chairman Kudipudi Sattibabu said the coalition government was extending full support to toddy tappers and taking steps for the welfare and safety of their families.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Sattibabu alleged that the previous YSRCP government had neglected the welfare of toddy workers despite the risks involved in their occupation. He said the coalition government led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was giving priority to the safety, healthcare and financial security of toddy tappers.

He recalled that IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh was informed about the problems faced by toddy workers in Visakhapatnam during Yuvagalam padayatra. Responding positively at the time, Lokesh had assured that steps would be taken to address their concerns, and the government had initiated measures after coming to power, he said.

Sattibabu noted that accidents involving toddy tappers falling from trees were frequent, and many affected families were facing severe hardships. In view of this, the government was working on providing ex-gratia assistance to injured workers and families of those who lost their lives in accidents. He said the government was also taking steps to provide insurance coverage, health assistance and welfare schemes for toddy workers. Special attention was being given to educational opportunities for their children and employment prospects for youth from toddy tapper families.

The chairman said the coalition government was committed to protecting traditional occupations while improving the livelihoods of toddy workers across the state. Referring to a large gathering of toddy workers organised under the banner of Paidimamba Yata Welfare Association in Vizianagaram district on Sunday, he said the issues brought to his notice by community members would be taken tothe government for resolution.
