Uttam Kumar Reddy inspects SRSP as floodwaters continue to rise

Nizamabad: Telangana Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, along with Ministers D. Sridhar Babu and Vivek Venkataswamy, on Saturday inspected the Sriramsagar Reservoir (SRSP) at Pochampad in Nizamabad district to review the heavy flood inflows following recent rains.

Officials informed the ministers that around 85,000 cusecs of water is entering the reservoir from upstream projects, including Gaikwad, Vishnupuri, Babli, Balegaon and Kadem, with inflows expected to continue for another 48 hours.

The minister said the reservoir, which has a full reservoir level of 1091 feet and an effective storage capacity of 80 TMC, currently holds 27.37 TMC of water at 1072.30 feet.

He noted that storage is lower than the 38 TMC available during the same period last year and said the government would decide on irrigation water releases for ayacut farmers after assessing inflows over the next few days.

Highlighting that SRSP's original 112 TMC capacity has reduced to 80 TMC due to siltation, Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that the government would prioritize desiltation to restore the reservoir's storage capacity while also reaffirming its commitment to scientifically rehabilitate the Medigadda, Sundilla and Annaram barrages.
