Hanumakonda: A total of 314 children were rescued from child labour and other vulnerable situations during Operation Muskaan-XII, conducted from July 1 to 31 across the Warangal Police Commissionerate limits.

The rescued children, comprising 269 boys and 45 girls, were produced before the Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) of Warangal, Hanamkonda and Jangaon districts before being reunited with their parents after counselling.

Addressing the media on Saturday, Warangal Police Commissioner N. Swetha, IPS, said the month-long operation was carried out as per the directions of the Central Government to eliminate child labour and safeguard children's rights. Special teams conducted inspections at industrial areas, shops, brick kilns and other vulnerable locations across the Commissionerate.

Nine special police teams, led by Sub-Inspectors and supported by 36 police personnel, carried out the operation in coordination with the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, Child Protection Departments, Childline, Labour Department and NGOs including SHARE, SCOPE and FMM SSS. Of the rescued children, 226 were engaged in child labour, while 85 were identified as school dropouts. The Commissioner also revealed that 130 children belonged to states outside Telangana, including Bihar, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Assam. As part of the crackdown, police registered 55 FIRs against employers for violating child labour laws. The Labour Department filed 92 inspection reports, while details of 118 children were entered into police General Diaries.
