Anantapur: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Monday unveiled an ambitious roadmap to strengthen water security and irrigation infrastructure across the state, while addressing the Jaladhara-Water Security and Responsibility of Water Users Associations programme at Yadiki in Anantapur district.

Outlining a long-term vision, the Chief Minister said the government aims to create an integrated water grid linking major rivers from Srikakulam in the north to Anantapur in the south. He announced that the Polavaram Project would be completed and dedicated to the nation before the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu, enabling gravity-based transfer of water to the Krishna River and stabilising the Krishna delta. He added that water supply could also be extended up to Visakhapatnam.

Naidu proposed diverting nearly 200 TMC of Godavari water towards the Nagarjuna Sagar ayacut and linking it further through the Nallamala Sagar and Veligonda projects. This, he said, would enable better utilisation of Srisailam waters for Rayalaseema, ensuring irrigation coverage across the region. He also highlighted plans to channel surplus floodwaters from Srikakulam to drought-prone areas like Anantapur through an interconnected river system. Key projects such as Vamsadhara, Nagavali and Champavathi would be completed, he said, adding that the Centre has approved a new barrage on the Vamsadhara River.

The Chief Minister assured completion of pending irrigation projects, including Varikapudisela in Palnadu, Chintalapudi Lift Irrigation Scheme in Eluru, and the Veligonda project, aimed at benefiting drought-affected regions such as Prakasam and Markapur.

During the event, Naidu also launched a 100-day action plan focused on water conservation and introduced a dedicated mobile application to strengthen water governance and empower water users' associations.

He emphasised that water security remains the state's top priority, with efforts underway to capture, store and efficiently utilise water resources.

Highlighting progress in irrigation, he said Andhra Pradesh ranks first in micro-irrigation, with investments of Rs 1,031 crore. Drip irrigation initiatives have transformed Rayalaseema into a horticulture hub, while groundwater levels have improved by 1.92 metres.

The Chief Minister accused YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of levelling corruption allegations at a time when work on the Amaravati capital is progressing well, and the state is witnessing development.

Branding Jagan's brainchild MAVIGUN - a proposal to declare Machilipatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur as a capital corridor- as "crazy", Naidu alleged that the opposition leader was unwilling even to utter the word Amaravati. "I do not understand this craze. It has only intensified," he said, ridiculing the MAVIGUN proposal

Naidu visited exhibition stalls at the venue along with Tadipatri MLA JC Ashmit Reddy. The Chief Minister reaffirmed his government's commitment to delivering accountable governance, sustainable development, and welfare for all, with a vision to make Andhra Pradesh a leading state by 2047.
