Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday directed officials to assess crop damage and ensure compensation to affected farmers amid unseasonal rain in several districts of the state.

Instructing officials to remain on alert, the chief minister sought reports from district magistrates on the impact on crops and said the government's priority is to safeguard farmers' interests. According to an official statement, Adityanath asked the revenue and agriculture departments, along with insurance companies, to conduct a joint survey of crop damage and submit reports to the government so that compensation can be disbursed without delay. "Crops were affected due to recent rains as well, and compensation is already being provided. Damage caused by the latest rainfall should also be assessed at the earliest," he said.

The chief minister instructed district magistrates to remain in the field, assess the situation and ensure accurate evaluation of crop losses in affected areas so that timely assistance can be extended. He also directed the principal secretary (agriculture) and the relief commissioner to coordinate with field officers and told the officials to begin the process of compensation immediately after the assessment is completed.

The experts have attributed the unseasonal rainfall to a western disturbance and an associated cyclonic circulation which has resulted in rainfall over parts of northern India, including Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
