Japanese automaker Toyota has showcased its Urban BEV Concept at the Auto Expo 2025. This new Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) concept is reportedly the rebadged version of Maruti Suzuki's eVX concept, previously unveiled at the Auto Expo which also served as a base for the e Vitara.

While sharing its underpinnings with the Maruti Suzuki EV, Toyota has incorporated design and feature changes in this SUV to mark a clear distinction from the eVX concept. Apart from the Urban BEV Concept, Toyota also showcased the Land Cruiser 300, Land Cruiser 300 GR Sport, Hilux Concept and Hilux Black Edition at the event.

Toyota Urban BEV Concept: Design

The Urban BEV Concept features U-shaped LED headlamps, a chrome strip linking the headlights, squared-off wheel arches, and aero-optimised 19-inch alloy wheels. Other highlights include a front-wheel arch-mounted charging port, black door trim, roof-mounted spoiler, LED tail lamps, and a prominent rear bumper with a central reflector.

On the inside, the Urban BEV Concept mirrors the Maruti Suzuki eVX but with a black-and-grey theme and additional premium touches. It comes equipped with a dual-screen layout comprising a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen. Key features include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a JBL audio system, wireless phone charging, 12-colour ambient lighting, a motorized driver seat, and a fixed glass roof.

Toyota Urban BEV Concept: Safety

The Toyota Urban BEV Concept includes advanced safety features such as multiple airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a 360-degree camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and Level-2 ADAS. ADAS capabilities are expected to include lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control.

Toyota Urban BEV Concept: Powertrain

The Urban BEV Concept gets two battery options which will get 2WD and AWD configuration:

  • 49kWh (2WD): Produces 142 bhp and 189 Nm of torque, offering a range of approximately 400km on a single charge.
  • 61kWh (2WD): Generates 172 bhp and 189 Nm of torque.
  • 61kWh (AWD): Adds a rear motor for a combined output of 181 bhp and 300 Nm of torque.

Toyota Urban BEV Concept: Expected Price

The production version of the Urban BEV is expected to arrive in the Indian market in late 2025, with an estimated starting price of Rs 19 to 23 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV.
