The India Post has released a detailed notification for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment 2026. This time, the recruitment drive is being conducted to fill a total of 28,740 vacancies across the country for several positions such as Branch Postmaster (BPM) and Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM).
Interested candidates can now submit their online applications at the official website of India Post, i.e. indiapostgdsonline.gov.in. The online registration will begin on January 31, 2026, and candidates should note that only online applications will be accepted.
The India Post GDS (Gramin Dak Sevak) exam/recruitment is conducted to recruit staff for rural and branch post offices across India.
Interested candidates will have time till February 14, 2026 to complete their online application form, but the fee payment deadline has been scheduled for February 16, 2026 (till 5 pm). The application correction window will be open on February 18 and 19, 2026. During the correction window, applicants can edit certain details in their submitted forms by paying the prescribed correction fee.

Eligibility, Selection Process
To be eligible for this post, candidates should have cleared Class 10 and should be between 18 and 40 years of age, with selection based solely on Class 10 marks. The pay scale ranges from Rs 10,000 to Rs 24,470 per month for ABPM and GDS posts, while BPM posts offer a higher salary bracket of Rs 12,000 to Rs 29,380 per month.
The first list of shortlisted candidates will be announced on February 28. This list will feature the division name, office, post name, community, registration number, percentage of marks obtained, and document verification venue.
