Les Wexner, the billionaire founder of L Brands, testified before Congress, stating he was deceived by his former financial adviser, Jeffrey Epstein, whom he described as a 'world-class con man.'

Wexner denied any involvement in Epstein's criminal activities, including the abuse of young women.

In a statement to the House Oversight Committee, Wexner expressed regret for trusting Epstein, emphasizing his innocence and desire to clarify his relationship with the convicted sex offender. Lawmakers conducted the interview at Wexner's residence in New Albany, Ohio, following the release of new Justice Department documents about Epstein.

Wexner's Background and Relationship with Epstein

Wexner characterized himself as a philanthropist and community leader, seeking to dispel damaging rumors surrounding his connection to Epstein. He stated, 'I was naïve, foolish, and gullible to put any trust in Jeffrey Epstein,' and reiterated his commitment to ethical conduct.

Wexner's association with Epstein spanned decades, during which he entrusted Epstein with significant financial authority, including power of attorney. Their relationship deteriorated after Wexner discovered Epstein had misappropriated funds from him.

Allegations and Legal Proceedings

Wexner faces scrutiny due to allegations from Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre, who claimed Wexner was among those to whom she was trafficked. Wexner has consistently denied these allegations and stated he has never met Giuffre.

Despite Wexner's denial of wrongdoing, the extensive documentation linking him to Epstein raises questions about the nature of their relationship. His name appears numerous times in Epstein's records, and he has expressed embarrassment over his past association with Epstein.

The Fallout and Continuing Pressure

Following the release of new documents, pressure has mounted on Wexner from sexual assault survivors and advocacy groups. Notably, Maria Farmer, an Epstein survivor, asserted that the documents validate her early complaints against Epstein.

Additionally, Wexner's ties to Epstein have prompted calls for the removal of his name from an Ohio State University facility due to his perceived complicity in Epstein's actions. Wexner served on the university's board during a time of significant abuse by another perpetrator, Dr. Richard Strauss.
