It's that time of the year again and it's time to Rumble at the Royal Rumble. 30 male and 30 female superstars will participate in their respective matches with an aim to earn a title opportunity at Wrestlemania.
Those who miss out on getting a title opportunity at the Rumble get a second chance at the Elimination Chamber. This year's Rumble is one of the most star-studded in recent years. Roman Reigns will make his in-ring return and participate in the 30-man match. Brock Lesnar has also confirmed his participation. Both former Rumble winners have been away since Survivor Series 2025.
Cody Rhodes is aiming to create history by becoming only the second superstar to win the Rumble thrice. The American Nightmare won the 30-man matches in 2023 and 2024. He is among the favourites to win the 30-man match for the third time.
In the women's division, Liv Morgan is the top contender to win the 30-woman match. She has proven her mettle in past Rumbles and now deserves a title match at Wrestlemania. As the fans wait for the much-awaited premium live event, here we have a look at the complete Royal Rumble rules -
Match start rules
The match officially starts with two superstars in the ring. A new superstar enters every 90 seconds. A total of 30 superstars participate in a Royal Rumble. The match goes on until there is one superstar left in the ring. Jey Uso will enter the Royal Rumble as the defending winner. He eliminated John Cena to win the Royal Rumble 2025.
How does an elimination happen?
A superstar is considered eliminated from the Rumble after his/her both of their feet touch the floor. A superstar is still in the match even he/she falls on their back with feet in the air. Kofi Kingston has, on occasions, avoided being eliminated despite being kicked out of the ring because his feet didn't touch the floor.
Over the top elimination
An elimination only happens after a superstar is sent from over the top rope. A superstar won't be considered eliminated if he is thrown outside from the middle rope or the lower rope - even his feet touch the floor. Superstars can take advantage of this rule and walk out of the ring for some rest.
Royal Rumble milestones
1. Stone Cold is the only superstar to win the Royal Rumble thrice. The former WWE Champion won the 1997, 1998 and 2001 Royal Rumbles.
2. Cody Rhodes, John Cena, Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Brock Lesnar, Edge and Batista are eight superstars to have won this match twice. Cody is the face of WWE and he can even become the first superstar to win four Rumbles in the future.
3. Gunther holds the record for spending the most time in a Rumble. The former World Heavyweight Champion spent 1 hour, 11 minutes and 40 seconds in the 2023 Royal Rumble. The Ring General was last eliminated by Cody.
4. Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit, Edge and Rhea Ripley are four superstars who have won the Rumble from the number 1 position. Ripley is the only female superstar to do so. Edge achieved the milestone in his second Rumble after coming back from retirement.
