Indian filmmaker Boney Kapoor has acquired the remake rights of political humour Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil (TTT). After receiving much acclaims with its release on January 15, 2026, the film is now anticipating to have a remake.
This state-related drama revolves around a village council president who must maintain order after an unexpected death occurs on the eve of a wedding. Now, Kapoor has visited Chennai for the film's success party last Friday on February 6 after its successful Pongal run. For the unversed, it stars Jiiva in the lead role, along with Thambi Ramaiah, Ilavarasu and Prathana Nathan.
Boney Kapoor acquires remake rights of Tamil release
New updates have brought in Boney Kapoor taking the remake rights of Nithish Sahadev directional Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil (TTT), a recently released political drama which received positive response and praises for its humour, writing, and performances from audience and critic alike.
Kapoor watched the film earlier this year at a local theatre while attending the Celebrity Cricket League in Coimbatore. It is said that the producer was impressed by the film's narrative treatment, strong performances, and its deft balance of political commentary and humour.
Soon after the screening, Kapoor reportedly approached the makers to convey his interest in acquiring the film's remake rights. The deal was subsequently finalised, with his official acquisition of the rights to remake the film.
Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil OTT release
Netflix has acquired the streaming rights of this Jiiva's release and now it is set to release on February 12. The film is known to be Jiiva's comeback in the industry with his strong acting skills, on-screen persona and a powerful choice of the project.
About the film
Set in a close-knit village, Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil (TTT) follows a panchayat leader named Jeevarathnam (played by Jiiva) whose routine life turns upside down when a wedding and a funeral collide on the same day. With sharp satire and warm humour, TTT gently unpacks local politics, fragile egos, power struggles and family drama centering the rural life.
On the technical front, the film reunites key members of the Falimy team, with Bablu Aju handling cinematography, Vishnu Vijay composing the music, and Arjune Babu overseeing editing. The film is produced by Kannan and co-produced by Deepak Ravi, with the screenplay written by Nithish Sahadev along with Sanjo Joseph and Anuraj OB.
