Claims have been circulating on social media about the employment history of Alex Pretti, a nurse killed by a Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis, and that he was fired from his job.
According to the report, Pretti was allegedly dismissed after complaints from patients and an internal review that supposedly documented "five incidents of inappropriate behaviour". The article included detailed quotes attributed to the purported Dr Vasquez.
These claims are untrue.
Pretti was never employed by Lakeshore Medical Center, and there is no indication that a doctor named Elena Vasquez is affiliated with the institution. There is also no evidence to support the allegations outlined in the report, which appear to have been entirely fabricated.
At the time of his death, Pretti was working as a registered nurse in the intensive care unit at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System.
He obtained his nursing licence in January 2021 after completing nursing school at the University of Minnesota. Reports indicate that he put himself through nursing school by working at the VA hospital.
Before beginning his role at the VA, Pretti transitioned directly from nursing school and research assistance at the University of Minnesota. At the VA, Pretti cared for critically ill veterans.
Colleagues have described him as a "dedicated" ICU nurse, saying he had worked at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System for approximately five years before his death in January 2026.
The false claims circulating online are among several pieces of misinformation that have emerged on social media following Pretti's killing.
