Kid Rock's appearance at Turning Point USA's "All-American Halftime Show," billed as a conservative alternative to Bad Bunny's Super Bowl LX halftime performance, is facing scrutiny after reports suggested the entire mini-concert was pre-recorded rather than live.
According to Variety, citing sources, the TPUSA halftime show was pre-taped in Atlanta before it aired opposite the Super Bowl broadcast.
Turning Point USA has not officially confirmed where the performances originated from or whether they were shown live. Without an announcer or on-screen explanation during the stream, viewers were given no indication that the show may not have been taking place in real time.
The lack of clarity has raised questions, particularly because Kid Rock's headlining performance already appeared unusual to viewers. While other artists on the bill seemed to sing live, Kid Rock appeared to rely heavily on a pre-recorded track during his performance of his 1999 hit "Bawitdaba," occasionally rapping only a few words while the track played. He did, however, appear to sing live later when performing a cover of Cody Johnson's "'Til You Can't."
The show featured performances by Brantley Gilbert, Gabby Barrett, and Lee Brice before Kid Rock closed the set. It was staged in an enclosed studio-like setting with what appeared to be around 100 fans standing along a large thrust ramp extending across the floor.
Kid Rock Mocked for 'Miming 'Bawitdaba TPUSA Halftime Performance
Clips of Kid Rock's performance quickly circulated online, with social media users accusing him of blatant lip-syncing. In several moments, his microphone was lowered away from his mouth while the vocals continued, and at other times his mouth did not appear to match the audio.
"Kid Rock is blatantly lip syncing, it's all prerecorded & he wasn't even trying," one user wrote on X. Another added: "Kid Rock forgets his lyrics during his song showing all the MAGA Far Right that he wasn't even singing. What a complete and utter embarrassment."
Turning Point USA announced its alternative halftime show last October amid conservative backlash over the NFL's selection of Bad Bunny as the Super Bowl halftime performer. Bad Bunny's live show at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara featured appearances by Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, Cardi B, Pedro Pascal, and Jessica Alba, as well as a real-life wedding during the broadcast.
According to the New York Times, TPUSA's halftime show drew about 6 million viewers during its initial livestream, while CBS News reported that Bad Bunny's halftime show attracted roughly 135 million viewers, marking an all-time high. Other estimates placed TPUSA's audience at an average of four to five million viewers. At the time of writing, the TPUSA video had been viewed around 18 million times, with many viewers saying they clicked out of curiosity.
Kid Rock, a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump, said the TPUSA show was designed for conservative Americans who feel underserved by mainstream entertainment. The White House reposted a video of the performance on social media, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said his family had tuned in. Trump, meanwhile, criticized the official Super Bowl halftime show on Truth Social, calling it "absolutely terrible" and "one of the worst, EVER!"
