Beirut Massive Explosion: Over 75 dead & 4,000 Injured, Confirms Lebanon Govt
Two massive explosions rocked Lebanon's capital Beirut on Tuesday-the chilling video if which are going viral on social media. According to the data confirmed by Lebanon's health ministry, as many as 75 were dead while over 4,000 others are undergoing treatment in the hospitals.
The blast took place near the port reportedly due to mishandling of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate, a highly explosive material used in fertilizers and bombs. The vibration sent by the blast shook hundreds of miles away and registered as a 3.3 magnitude earthquake in the Lebanese capital.
Scenes reminding a post-war situation are seen at Beirut with windows shattered, cars flipped on roads with debris and bloodstains all around. Hospitals were already struggling with supplies due to the economic crisis. Lebanon's Prime Minister, Hassan Diab called for an investigation into the cause of the blast, with the results released within five days.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi this morning said he was 'shocked and saddened' by massive explosions. Taking to his official PMO handle, Modi wrote-"Shocked and saddened by the large explosion in Beirut city leading to loss of life and property. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and the injured."
