Fish Farm to Tourism Spot
Apart from this, the efforts of a father and son have made the Kadalundi a tourism hub.
Ambali Baburaj, three times National Award winner as best farmer, along with his son Shamjith Raj has turned fish farm to a beautiful tourism spot and started a tourism package in the name Kadalundi Island Tourism.
The story started off with fish farming, where they cultivated fish in natural
water sources and supplied it. Six years ago, Mr Baburaj began allowing people to visit his fish farm. Now the people are taken for a two-hour long boat ride around Kadalundi River and follow it up with lip-smacking river fish varieties. Rarely people coming from outside get a chance to travel through the deep mangrove forest and this chance provided there. Kadalundi is well known for its waterway which rises from the Cherakomban Mountains.
The services here include boating, seafood, entertainment programs, bird sanctuary visiting, mangrove forest visiting, fish farm visiting etc. Different packages are available and the price depends on the number of people. INR 4350/- for 4 members, INR 6700/- for 8 members, INR 9000/- for 12 members are some of the packages. The entries for Children less than 5 years are free of cost.
The people come here to explore the wide variety of biodiversity and the natural beauty offered by mangroves. Soon the Kadalundi is going to be labelled as the next tourism destination in North Kerala.
