The State Election Commission has ordered a re-poll at a polling station under the 17-Pekuarjala-Janmejoynagar (ST) District Council constituency of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.
According to an official press release, the State Election Commissioner has directed that voting at Polling Station No. 39, Hirapur S.B. School, be declared void following serious irregularities reported during the polling process. The Commission took note of the matter with utmost seriousness after reviewing credible video evidence and a report submitted by the appointed observer.
Preliminary findings indicate that certain individuals allegedly attempted to tamper with the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), thereby compromising the integrity of the electoral process and obstructing the conduct of a free and fair election.
The Commission has strongly condemned such actions, emphasizing that maintaining the integrity, transparency, and credibility of the electoral process remains its highest priority.
Exercising its vested powers, the Commission has annulled the polling at the concerned booth and scheduled a re-poll on April 16, 2026, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The Commission has assured that all necessary arrangements will be put in place to ensure that the re-poll is conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner. Adequate security measures will also be deployed to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
Appealing to political parties, candidates, and voters, the Commission has urged all stakeholders to cooperate in upholding the sanctity and dignity of the democratic process.
