'Triple-Engine Govt' will boost tribal development: Minister Ratan Lal Nath

Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday said that development in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) would gain further momentum if the Bharatiya Janata Party comes to power.

Addressing an election rally at Sambhuram Para in Bodhjungnagar-Wakhinagar in support of BJP candidate Ranabir Debbarma, the minister highlighted what he described as significant developmental progress in the state over the past seven years. He cited improvements in housing, drinking water, roads, and self-help groups.

Providing local figures, Nath said Sambhuram Para has 749 families, of which 300 are receiving free rice. He added that 129 families have been provided government housing, while more than 183 houses have been sanctioned. He also claimed that the area has achieved 100 percent water connectivity.

Targeting the opposition CPI(M), Nath alleged that previous governments failed to deliver development. He claimed that while the BJP government has provided housing to over 4.54 lakh families in about seven years, the CPIM government provided only 78,000 houses during its 35-year rule.

The minister further said that 5 kg of free rice is being distributed to 24 lakh people and that the number of self-help groups has increased from 4,160 to 54,000. Financial assistance to such groups, he added, has risen significantly, benefiting around 1.8 lakh women under the "Lakhpati Didi" initiative.

Focusing on tribal welfare, Nath said the government has taken steps to ensure greater recognition and development of indigenous communities. He noted that several tribal individuals have received Padma Shri awards and that projects worth around ₹1,400 crore, supported by the World Bank, are being implemented in tribal areas. He also mentioned an increase in social pensions for community leaders.

Describing the current administration as a "double-engine government," Nath said that a BJP victory in TTAADC would result in a "triple-engine government," accelerating development efforts further. He urged voters to support the party on the basis of its development record.
