The motion was moved by Assembly Speaker Rampada Jamatia on the second day of the ongoing Assembly session.
The House congratulated the young judoka for her historic achievement at the 23rd Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland.

"On July 31, 2026, Asmita defeated a strong Canadian opponent in the final of the women's 48kg judo category through a "Golden Score" to create history. She became the first Indian judoka to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal, bringing pride to Tripura and the entire country", the message reads.

The Speaker highlighted Asmita's journey from the remote South Sonaichhari village under Belonia subdivision of South Tripura. Born on March 22, 2003, she is the youngest daughter of the late Arjun Dey and Munni Patari Dey.

The motion praised Asmita for overcoming numerous challenges through hard work, perseverance, discipline, self-confidence and determination. Her achievement, the Assembly said, was not merely a personal accomplishment but also an inspiring example for talented youngsters from remote and rural areas across the country.

The House expressed confidence that her success would encourage the youth of Tripura to take up sports and inspire future generations to pursue their dreams on the international stage.

The Assembly also noted that Asmita is now focused on intensive training under qualified coaches ahead of the upcoming Asian Games judo competition in Japan in September.

"Tripura Legislative Assembly extends its heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Golden Girl Asmita Dey," the motion stated, while also acknowledging the contributions and sacrifices of her late father, mother, brother, coaches and all others who supported her journey.

The House wished Asmita good health, a bright future and continued success in international competitions, expressing hope that she would further enhance the prestige of both India and Tripura.
