Telugu Film Titles Losing Telugu Vibe?

Telugu Film Titles Losing Telugu Vibe?

Tupaki.com 3 hrs ago

Almost a decade ago, when director Sekhar Kammula was naming his films with titles like Happy Days, Leader, and Life Is Beautiful, many thought that he was naming his movies only with English words.

Though the content is full of Telugu vibes, the titles didn't reflect the intention. And then, there's a season where almost every film is named with an English word. Though it's gone later, it looks like a similar situation has arisen again.

Look at some of the upcoming film titles, including Kiran Abbavaram's Reality and Vishwaksen's Cult, Naba Natesh's Chemistry; there are a lot of movies that are relying on English words only. Even superhit movies like Baby and Chennai Love Story are also in English words only. When it comes to films of big stars, Chiranjeevi's Kaka is a Marathi and Urdu origin word, while Balakrishna's Dada is from Bengali and Raaka we don't know what the meaning is yet. Yash's Toxic, Prabhas' Spirit, Jr NTR's Dragon and other big movies all have English words only. Upcoming movies like Fauzi use Urdu words, Varanasi is a Sanskrit-rooted noun, and the list just gets bigger.

Many are wondering if Telugu film titles should learn a thing or two from Tamil and Kerala filmmakers, as most of the titles are in the local language only. While they are also known for poetic titles, somehow the pan-India madness is making even Tamil and Malayalam big stars run after English titles in the present times. Well, a movie might work out, but giving a local title would make the languages stand and flourish forever. Filmmakers should think about this.
