A report from a panel of senators in Brazil, scheduled to be released later this week, initially recommended charges of mass homicide and genocide against Bolsonaro for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to excerpts obtained by the New York Times. Late on Tuesday, Brazilian Senate Pandemic Parliamentary Inquiry (CPI) president, Senator Omar Aziz, confirmed the allegation of genocide would be dropped due to a lack of consensus, while vice president Senator Randolfe Rodrigues added the mass murder charge would be replaced with charges of “epidemic that resulted in death”, according to CNN Brasil.

A 22-year-old college student who was taken to police custody died after he returned home in Tamil Nadu's Mudhukulathur.

On Friday, Manigandan was riding his bike and had not stopped at a check post during a police vehicle search. Police chased Manigandan and he was detained.

The 22-year-old was later released but on reaching home, Manigandan fainted and died. This lead to a mass protest at Mudhukulathur where Manigandan's relatives blocked the roads demanding justice.

Senior Police officials reached the spot and assured action.
