Udupi and Mangaluru: Government schools in the district will begin activities for the new academic year from Monday. Preparations for the school reopening celebrations have been completed.
Schools are ready to welcome students returning after the summer vacation.
On the first day of the new academic year, the school reopening programme will be celebrated in a festive atmosphere. Uniforms and textbooks will be distributed to students, along with the arrangement of sweets. Several schools have also planned a special welcome for children who are joining school for the first time.
Bridge classes to be given priority
With the start of academic activities, priority will be given to bridge classes. These classes will be conducted for a few days to reduce the learning gap between the previous year's syllabus and the new class curriculum. Teachers have made preparations to assess students' learning levels and provide necessary guidance.
Midday meal scheme to restart
The midday meal scheme will also resume from June 1. Schools are completing necessary arrangements such as cleaning of kitchens, inspection of cooking equipment, availability of gas cylinders, and stocking of essential supplies. On the first day, payasam will be served along with the midday meal for students.
District and taluk-level officials will visit various schools to review the smooth conduct of reopening celebrations and academic activities. With the monsoon season beginning, special attention has been given to student safety. Precautionary measures are being taken regarding school buildings, electricity systems, drinking water facilities, and campus safety.
Admission drive to be launched
With the start of the new academic year, an admission drive will also be launched. Awareness programmes and outreach activities will be conducted to increase enrolment in government schools. The education department has launched a special campaign to identify children who are out of school and bring them back into mainstream education.
The education department, school management, teachers, and the community have jointly made preparations to make the beginning of the academic year memorable for children and to ensure quality education. The sound of children returning to school is expected to fill school campuses once again.
