Mangaluru: Doctors at Father Muller Medical College Hospital successfully treated a 46-year-old woman suffering from a serious heart condition using advanced medical technology.
The patient, a resident of Kasaragod, had been experiencing severe breathing problems, chest pain, weakness, fatigue and difficulty in blood circulation, which affected her daily activities.
She consulted senior cardiologist Dr H Prabhakar at the hospital. After detailed examination, doctors diagnosed her with a rare condition called Takayasu Arteritis, which was blocking blood flow in the arteries and affecting heart function.
The patient was admitted and treated through a complex angioplasty procedure carried out in two stages over two days. Doctors used advanced imaging technology, inserting a small device through a tiny opening in the thigh to reach the affected blood vessels and restore blood flow.
The medical team included cardiologists Dr Pradeep Pereira, Dr Jostal Pinto and Dr Ashok.
The patient responded well to the treatment and has now recovered. She has been discharged from the hospital and is able to resume normal life, doctors said.
Director of Father Muller Institutions Faustin Lucas Lobo congratulated the medical team for the successful procedure.
