Ballari: Two cow heads were found dumped in the middle of a public road near the 9th Cross on Kappagal Road in the city on Saturday morning, triggering widespread outrage.

As soon as the incident came to light, BJP leaders, activists of Hindu organisations and local residents gathered at the spot and staged a protest.

According to eyewitnesses, unidentified persons allegedly brought the cow heads in a sack, dumped them in the middle of the road and fled the scene. The incident has caused anxiety and anger among local residents, who suspect that the act may have been carried out with the intention of hurting religious sentiments.

Speaking during the protest, demonstrators alleged that leaders of Hindu organisations had recently intercepted cattle that were being transported illegally in connection with the upcoming Bakrid festival and had handed them over to the police. They claimed that the present incident could be an act of retaliation. However, the police have not officially confirmed any such link.

"We regard cows as sacred and equivalent to a mother. Strict action must be taken against those responsible for this inhuman act. Our protest will continue until the accused are arrested," the protesters said.

Police personnel who arrived at the scene attempted to bring the situation under control. During discussions with the protesters, police officials assured them that a thorough investigation would be conducted and that those responsible would be identified and brought to justice.

Notably, local residents recalled that a controversial incident had previously occurred near a temple in the same area. Police have now taken custody of the cow heads for examination and have registered a case. Further investigation is underway.
