Belthangady: A man was killed in a wild elephant attack near Muchiradka, close to Rekhya village in the taluk, on Saturday evening. The deceased has been identified as Balakrishna Gowda (55), a resident of Idyalu.
It is suspected that Balakrishna Gowda was attacked by the wild elephant while returning home in the evening after finishing his daily work. When he failed to return home, family members and locals launched a search operation. During the search, they found his plastic raincoat lying on the pathway, along with fresh footprints of a wild elephant nearby.
As they searched the surrounding area under suspicion of an elephant attack, they discovered his body. Forest officials and police personnel visited the spot and conducted an inspection.
