Bengaluru: A BESCOM Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) from Rajajinagar was caught by Lokayukta police while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15 lakh to reduce an electricity penalty amount.

The arrested accused has been identified as B.S. Basavarajayya (57), Assistant Executive Engineer at BESCOM's Rajajinagar division.

Ambarish from Doddaballapur is the complainant in the case. According to the complaint, Basavarajayya had allegedly demanded Rs 18 lakh from the complainant to reduce the electricity penalty amount in the BESCOM vigilance wing.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, Ambarish approached the Lokayukta police and filed a complaint.

Based on the complaint, Lokayukta police registered a case and conducted a trap operation on Friday. Basavarajayya was caught while allegedly accepting Rs 15 lakh from the complainant.
