Bengaluru: An Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of BESCOM's JP Nagar Sub-Division 12 office and an electrical contractor were caught by Lokayukta police while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 to sanction an additional 25-kilowatt electricity load for a temporarily installed power meter.

Assistant Executive Engineer Manoj Kumar and electrical contractor Kantaraju are the arrested accused. Based on a complaint filed by N. Raghuraj, a resident of Sanjeevini Nagar near Hegganahalli, a Lokayukta team led by SP Shivaprakash Devaraju conducted a raid on Tuesday afternoon and arrested the duo along with the bribe money.

According to Lokayukta officials, Manoj Kumar had allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 to approve the additional 25-kilowatt electricity load for the temporary meter connection. The accused were caught while the contractor, Kantaraju, was allegedly receiving the money from Raghuraj on behalf of the officer.

Both accused have been taken into custody and are being questioned. Further investigation into the case is underway, officials said.
