Bengaluru: A man has been arrested by Kengeri police for allegedly abusing and attacking a woman conductor of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation with a helmet during a traffic jam.
The accused has been identified as Kumar (38), a resident of Lingarajapuram in Banaswadi. The incident took place on Sunday evening near a petrol bunk in Kengeri. Police registered a case based on a complaint filed by the conductor, Mangala, and later arrested the accused.
Mangala works as a conductor at BMTC's RR Nagar Depot-21, while her husband is the driver of the same bus. Around 5 pm on Sunday, the bus was travelling from Bapujinagar Satellite Bus Stand towards Mysuru Road with passengers on board.
At a traffic signal near Kengeri, heavy congestion had formed. During this time, an ambulance approached from behind. Due to vehicles on both sides, the bus could not immediately make way for the ambulance.
Police said Kumar, who was riding a two-wheeler, suddenly boarded the bus and attempted to attack the driver. Mangala intervened and asked him to get down from the bus. Angered by this, Kumar allegedly got down, verbally abused her, and struck her on the head with his helmet.
Mangala sustained injuries in the assault and later filed a complaint at the Kengeri police station. Based on her complaint, police registered a case and took the accused into custody.
