Chikkamagaluru: Furniture worth lakhs of rupees was reduced to ashes after a massive fire broke out due to a short circuit at a showroom on IG Road (Main Road) in the city on Sunday, March 29.
The fire completely destroyed almost all items in the shop, including mattresses, cupboards, cushions, sofa sets, and diwan cots. It is reported that the presence of highly flammable materials like mattresses and cushions caused the blaze to spread within seconds.
A major disaster was averted as moderate rain had occurred throughout the night, preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings. Shop owners and locals managed to move some items onto the road to save them from the flames.
Fire department personnel rushed to the spot and successfully extinguished the fire. Two fire tenders were deployed to the scene to bring the situation under control.
