Mangaluru/Udupi: In the wake of school vacations and consecutive weekend holidays, all tourist destinations and religious centers in the coastal region are packed with tourists.

Sunday also marked Akshaya Tritiya, leading to a high number of auspicious ceremonies and events. Consequently, vehicle movement was significantly higher than usual.

Monday is a government holiday on account of Basava Jayanti. Many who took leave on Saturday have secured a continuous three-day break. Most travelers have planned family trips by adjusting their schedules accordingly. Since tourists arrived in large numbers via private vehicles, traffic jams occurred in several places.

Crowds at temples

Crowds were immense at Kukke Subramanya, Dharmasthala Manjunatha Temple, and the festive sites of Kateel Durgaparameshwari, Polali, Bappanadu, Kapu, and Uchila. Significant footfall was also recorded at Udupi Krishna Math, Mandarthi Durgaparameshwari, Anegudde Temple, and Kollur Mookambika Temple. Devotees had to wait in long queues for darshan. The heavy rush is expected to continue through Monday as well.

Massive gatherings at beaches

While tourists mostly visited temples during the morning hours, they flocked to the beaches in the evening. From Ullal to Byndoor Someshwara, all beaches were teeming with people by sunset. Police struggled to manage the crowds at Panambur, Kapu, and Malpe beaches. Tourists also faced difficulties as parking spaces were completely exhausted.
