Mumbai: The release and success of Bollywood spy thriller Dhurandhar has reportedly triggered fresh activity within the D-Company network, according to intelligence sources.
The two-part film, starring Ranveer Singh, features a character named Bade Saheb, whose appearance reportedly bears similarities to underworld fugitive Dawood Ibrahim. Sources claim the portrayal has caused concern within D-Company, prompting efforts to project that Dawood remains alive and influential.
According to intelligence inputs, the organisation has allegedly activated parts of its Mumbai-based network and initiated efforts to recruit new members. Sources said recruitment responsibilities were assigned to the Shakeel gang, while Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI was allegedly tasked with training recruits and supplying weapons.
Investigators further claim that alleged gangster Munna Zingada was assigned a key operational role in a purported terror conspiracy.
Sources said recruits were allegedly not informed of the actual objective behind the operation. Instead, they were reportedly mobilised by exploiting local grievances, including resentment linked to a bulldozer action against an illegal mosque structure in Mumbai's Bandra Garib Nagar area.
The developments come after Delhi Police recently claimed to have foiled a terror plot and uncovered alleged links between Pakistan's ISI and elements of the Mumbai underworld.
Security agencies also suspect that the reported increase in activity could be linked to attempts by D-Company to regain relevance amid what officials describe as a decline in its traditional underworld and extortion operations.
According to sources, intelligence agencies are examining information suggesting that the network may have been exploring plans for a high-profile attack or the targeting of an influential individual in India, allegedly with external support.
Investigations into the claims are ongoing, and agencies continue to monitor the situation closely.
