Bengaluru: Shivakumar, a former close aide of Channagiri Congress MLA Basavaraj Shivaganga, was found dead after allegedly dying by suicide in a lodge in the Majestic area of Bengaluru.

The incident came to light later.

Shivakumar (34), a native of Davanagere, was the deceased. The incident reportedly took place on February 16 at a lodge named G.T. Residency in the Majestic area. Upparpet police have registered a case of unnatural death in connection with the incident.

According to police, Shivakumar had earlier worked as a close assistant to MLA Basavaraj Shivaganga. He had left the job a few months ago. After leaving the job, he reportedly faced family and financial problems. It is said that he had taken loans amounting to several lakhs of rupees and was under pressure from creditors.

Police said Shivakumar had come to stay at the G.T. Residency lodge in Majestic on February 16. On the same night, he allegedly made a video call to his wife and died by suicide.

The next morning, lodge staff knocked on the room door but did not receive any response. They then informed the police. Officers reached the spot, conducted an inspection and shifted the body to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem examination. Later, the body was handed over to the family members.

"I am tired of life"

Police said that before his death, Shivakumar had made a video call to his wife. During the call, he reportedly said that he was tired of life and that he was going to die. Despite his wife trying to console him, he ended the call and later died by suicide in the lodge, according to the investigation.

Debt burden and mental stress

During the investigation, police found that Shivakumar had loans amounting to several lakhs of rupees. After losing his job, he had no income to repay the debts and was reportedly under severe stress. Police suspect that the pressure from creditors and the loss of employment may have contributed to his decision.

A case has been registered at the Upparpet Police Station and further investigation is ongoing.

Was dismissal from job a reason?

Meanwhile, it is said that Shivakumar had been removed from his job about six months ago. There were allegations that he had committed several irregularities while working in the MLA's office, following which MLA Basavaraj Shivaganga reportedly removed him from the post. Police said there is no clear confirmation regarding these allegations.
