Karnataka PUC department asks parents to verify college details before admissions

Karnataka PUC department asks parents to verify college details before admissions

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Pre-University Education Department has asked parents and students to verify college details, approved courses and accreditation status before taking admission to PU colleges in the state.

In a statement, the department said details of all colleges in Karnataka have been uploaded on the official departmental website. Parents seeking admission for students after PUC have been advised to confirm the college address, courses offered and validity of approvals before enrolling.

The department also warned that strict action would be taken against institutions conducting classes at unauthorised locations or running courses through private training and coaching centres instead of approved campuses.

Officials said information had been received regarding some PU colleges conducting classes outside locations approved by the department.

The department further stated that some college managements were allegedly giving verbal assurances that approval for new colleges or additional sections would be obtained later, or that classes would be shifted to different locations in the future.

Parents have been advised not to trust such assurances or misleading information while taking admission decisions.

Students can file complaints over excess fees

Meanwhile, Justice B Srinivas Gowda, chairman of the fee regulation committee, said students can file complaints against private colleges demanding fees higher than the amount fixed for government quota seats in professional courses.

He clarified that private colleges cannot collect any additional fee apart from the amount prescribed by the government for seats allotted through the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA).

Students can submit complaints at the committee office located on the ground floor of the KEA building on 18th Cross, Malleswaram, Bengaluru. Strict action will be taken against institutions violating fee regulations, he said.
