Bengaluru: The Karnataka School Education Department has issued official guidelines for the 2026-27 academic year, with schools across the state set to reopen on June 1 with a festive atmosphere and enrolment drive.
According to the department, all government, aided and private schools will organise "School Reopening Celebrations" and admission campaigns on the first day of the academic year.
The department has directed schools to ensure distribution of free textbooks, uniforms and mid-day meals to students on the opening day along with sweets.
Bridge courses for students
To address learning gaps among students, bridge courses will be conducted for 30 days for Classes 1 to 3 and for 15 days for Classes 4 to 10. Schools have been instructed to compulsorily upload the results of these bridge programmes on the SATS software platform.
The department has also permitted Urdu-English bilingual teaching along with Kannada-English bilingual education in schools that have received prior approval.
Focus on safety and digital attendance
Schools have been instructed to immediately repair or remove damaged buildings, toilets and kitchen rooms weakened due to rain. Authorities have also been directed to take precautionary measures regarding dangerous trees and electrical wires near school premises.
Student attendance will be recorded using a facial recognition mobile application, while teacher attendance will be managed through the KAMS app.
Teachers will also conduct door-to-door awareness visits to ensure children aged between 6 and 14 years do not remain out of school.
School preparation schedule
- May 28: Completion of cleaning, drinking water and safety inspections
- May 29: Mandatory attendance for teachers and pre-opening preparations
- June 1: School reopening celebrations and start of admissions
- June 30: Conclusion of enrolment drive
