Manipal: The Neurodevelopmental Clinic of the Department of Psychiatry at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal, organised a family programme titled "Pragati" for children with neurodevelopmental disorders on May 26 and May 28.
Associate Dean of KMC Manipal, Dr Prasad S. S., was the chief guest at the event. The programme was presided over by Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of MAHE Teaching Hospitals. Dr Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, and Dr Arun G. Maiya, Dean of the Manipal College of Health Professions, attended as guests of honour. Dr Savita Soman, Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry, and Dr Amruthavarshini R., in-charge of the Neurodevelopmental Clinic, were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Prasad S. S. highlighted the importance of early identification and multidisciplinary treatment approaches for children with neurodevelopmental disorders. He appreciated the efforts of the Neurodevelopmental Clinic in creating awareness and extending comprehensive support to children and their families.
Dr Arun G. Maiya emphasised the role of child rehabilitation and family-centred care in improving the quality of life of children facing developmental challenges. He noted that coordinated support from healthcare professionals and caregivers plays a crucial role in a child's progress.
Dr Avinash Shetty stated that awareness programmes such as "Pragati" help parents better understand the needs of children with neurodevelopmental disorders and encourage social acceptance through timely intervention and treatment.
In his presidential address, Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi praised the dedicated services provided by the Neurodevelopmental Clinic and stressed the importance of a holistic healthcare approach involving psychiatry, paediatrics, allied health professionals and active family participation for the overall development of children.
As part of the programme, various recreational and interactive activities were organised on May 26 for children with neurodevelopmental disorders and their parents, promoting engagement, bonding and participation.
On May 28, an awareness and educational session for parents was conducted on neurodevelopmental disorders. Resource persons from child psychiatry, paediatrics, clinical psychology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and speech and hearing departments provided valuable insights and guidance.
Dr Amruthavarshini R. welcomed the gathering and presented an overview of the programme. Dr Mahesh Mohan delivered the vote of thanks.
