Speaking at a press conference at the University College auditorium in the city on Thursday, July 30, he said that students are facing difficulties due to the shortage of professors in various departments across the university campus. No appointments have been made for positions vacated by retirements since 2018. A formal request for recruitment has been made through this letter, he added.

Although efforts are currently being made to manage the shortfall using guest lecturers, the minimal age gap between these lecturers and students makes it difficult for students to comfortably share their concerns. All these issues have been highlighted in the letter.

He further mentioned that the issues of 460 pensioners of Mangalore University have been resolved, and the system has now reached a stage where pension funds are disbursed in the first week of every month. Pensions are being provided by sourcing funds through the Pension Fund Trust.

Suspended, not closed

The university has taken a decision to temporarily suspend several programs started in certain colleges under Mangalore University without receiving approval from the relevant government departments. They have not been closed permanently. Additionally, the university is not in a position to pay salaries to five or six faculty members for just two or three students. Students of such classes have been shifted to the main university campus until government approval is obtained, he explained.

98.47% pass percentage in UG

The examinations for the 6th and 8th semesters of all undergraduate programs under the university have concluded. Evaluation was completed on July 18, and to aid students' higher education and employment prospects, results for 17,076 out of 17,347 students were published on July 29. Students can log into the UUCMS portal to view their results. Results of a few students remain pending due to technical reasons. Prof. P. L. Dharma noted that because marks entry at the evaluation center was fully digitized online, it was possible to publish results while evaluation was ongoing.

Proposal for 'Sports Academy' in Belapu

A proposal is being submitted to convert Mangalore University's Science Research Centre at Belapu in Udupi into a well-equipped sports academy. A suggestion is being made to the government to set up a government-sponsored sports academy under the Central and State Youth Empowerment departments to support local young talent, Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. L. Dharma said.
