Mangaluru: Bisu Parba, celebrated as the first day of the New Year, will be observed in households across Tulunadu. This year, the festivities are scheduled for April 15, and preparations are in full swing across the city.
In April, the golden-hued Konne (Golden Shower) flowers bloom in abundance and are an essential part of the "Vishu Kani" arrangement. Scenes of people gathering these flowers from trees lining the roadsides have become common throughout the city.
In Tuluva households, homegrown vegetables and fruits are arranged in the prayer room or a prominent area of the house early in the morning. This is done to offer prayers to Mother Nature and the family deity for a prosperous harvest throughout the year. There is a deep-rooted belief among Tuluvas that waking up early to view the "Vishu Kani" ensures prosperity all year round. A special highlight of the day is the festive lunch, where all family members gather to eat together.
Special Pujas in Temples
On the occasion of Bisu Parba, Shri Mangaladevi Temple will conduct afternoon Mahapuja, Panchanga Shravana (reading of the almanac), Vishukani Puja, and various daily rituals. At Kudroli Shri Gokarnanatha Temple, Abhisheka will be performed at 11:30 AM, followed by a special Mahapuja at 12:00 PM. Special prayers will also be held at various temples in Ullal, Mulki, and Moodbidri. Celebrations are expected to be equally vibrant in the households and temples of the border district of Kasaragod.
