Udupi: The muhurat ceremony of a Kannada film titled Indu Enage Govinda, based on the life and autobiography of scholar Bannanje Govindacharya, was held on Monday at the premises of Adamaru Matha in Udupi.

The ceremony was conducted in the presence of religious leaders. Vedavardhana Tirtha, the current pontiff of Shirur Matha, performed the ritual by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Sugunendra Tirtha of Puttige Matha gave the camera clap, while Ishapriya Tirtha of Adamaru Matha marked the beginning of the shoot with the traditional film clap.

Speaking on the occasion, Vedavardhana Tirtha said knowledge should be gained to please God and added that Bannanje Govindacharya had devoted his life to that purpose.

Sugunendra Tirtha said the scholar had a deep understanding of the Vedas and guided people on the path of righteousness through his discourses.

Ishapriya Tirtha expressed hope that the teachings of Madhvacharya would reach more people through the life and work of Bannanje Govindacharya.

Scholar Krishnaraja Kuthpadi welcomed the gathering and hosted the programme, while Veena Bannanje from the Bannanje Govindacharya Foundation delivered the vote of thanks.

The film is being produced by the Bengaluru-based Bannanje Govindacharya Foundation. Director Karthik Sargur said around 120 actors will take part in the film and more than 60 technicians will work on the project.
