More than 20 lakh candidates appeared for the re-examination, which was conducted on June 21 after the original test held on May 3 was cancelled. The examination took place at 5,440 centres across India and 14 centres overseas.

According to an NDTV report, the NTA is making efforts to complete the evaluation process well ahead of the usual timeline to avoid any disruption to the medical admission schedule.

"Normally, examination results are declared within 45 days of the test, which would have placed the deadline around August 5. However, we are trying to expedite the process and aim to announce the results by July 20," an official familiar with the matter said.

The official also assured that the MBBS admission schedule is expected to remain on track despite the re-examination.

Earlier, the NTA released the provisional answer key on June 25 and invited objections until June 28. Reports suggest that nearly 10,000 objections were submitted by candidates challenging the preliminary answer key.

In a public notice issued on June 25, the agency said it would publish the final answer key and declare the results at the earliest after reviewing all objections.

For comparison, the previous year's NEET UG results were announced on June 14 for the examination conducted on May 4, while the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) began the counselling process on July 21.

The original NEET UG 2026 examination, conducted on May 3, was cancelled by the NTA on May 12 after receiving approval from the Government of India. The agency said the decision followed inputs received in coordination with central agencies and findings shared by law enforcement authorities.
