New Delhi: Official government data reveals that there are over 1 lakh single-teacher schools across India, with Karnataka ranking fourth in the country, accounting for 8,042 such schools.
According to the 2025-26 UDISE+ data, India has a total of 1,00,843 single-teacher schools. Andhra Pradesh tops the list with 16,357 such schools (16%), followed by Jharkhand (9,827) and Maharashtra (9,269).
Meanwhile, the states and Union Territories with the lowest number of single-teacher schools include Kerala (67), Nagaland (35), Sikkim (31), Ladakh (28), Delhi (7), and Andaman and Nicobar (1).
