Udupi: The State Police Flag Day was observed by the district police on Thursday at the Police Parade Ground near Mission Compound in the city.

Retired woman police inspector Sujatha V. Salian received the guard of honour and addressed the gathering. She said the flag represents discipline, dedication to duty, respect for law, and protection of the public.

Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar said Udupi district police have secured the top position and urged personnel to maintain the same standard.

During the event, officials also spoke about a health protection scheme for retired police personnel and staff. Under the scheme, financial assistance of up to Rs 1.5 lakh is provided for regular medical treatment and up to Rs 3 lakh for emergency cases. So far, three retired personnel in the district have benefited from the scheme.

Authorities said more than Rs 13 lakh is allocated every year for this purpose, and a proposal has been submitted to increase the fund to Rs 15 lakh. In the current year, about Rs 13.08 lakh has been distributed as medical aid to retired personnel.

A ceremonial parade was conducted by the police, and medical assistance was handed over to retired officers and staff. Police officials, personnel, retired staff, and representatives from various departments attended the programme. ASP Sudhakar Nayak delivered the vote of thanks.
