Pahalgam: Authorities have introduced a QR code system to strengthen tourist safety measures in the popular hill destination. By scanning the QR code using a mobile phone, visitors can verify the complete details of registered service providers.
Officials stated that the initiative aims to prevent fraud and ensure that only authorised individuals are engaged in tourism-related services.
Reason for the initiative
The move follows the terror attack that occurred on April 22 last year at the Baisaran meadow in Anantnag district, where 25 tourists and a local horse rider were killed. The incident had severely impacted tourism in the region. With tourist activity gradually recovering, authorities have implemented this system to prevent any recurrence and to reassure visitors about their safety.
Information available through QR code
Upon scanning the QR code, tourists can access the following details of service providers:
- Name of the service provider and father's name
- Detailed residential address
- Mobile number, Aadhaar number and registration number
- Approved operating route
- Status of police verification
Officials said the system is designed to promote transparency and strengthen security arrangements for tourists visiting the region.
