Mandya: Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said he does not need to respond to Minister Balakrishna's allegation that he had got his wife's phone tapped, and challenged the minister to release any documents against him if they exist.
Speaking to reporters in the city, Kumaraswamy said phone tapping was not the job of a Chief Minister.
"Why would I get my wife's phone tapped? Without my knowledge, my wife has not interfered in any transfer. I bought land with the money I earned as a film producer. I am not someone who dealt in land transactions," he said in response to the allegations.
He said bills had allegedly been prepared fraudulently in Magadi without work being carried out. "Where has the House committee report gone? I know whose hands and legs have been tied. When I raised my voice demanding an investigation against two people, who said, 'Oh no, we don't want our disciple'?" he asked.
"Does being the Chief Minister give someone two horns? Why should I be jealous? Let me respond to the problems and well-being of the people," Kumaraswamy said.
He further said he would appreciate Nagendra if he was innocent and questioned why his resignation was sought if he was not involved.
"Are you protecting those who trouble innocent people?" he asked.
Kumaraswamy also hit back at Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar's remark that the issue would be addressed when elections arrive, saying, "Let us see when the elections come."
