The story of Twisha Sharma: from lavish wedding celebrations to isolation and death

Udayavani 3 weeks ago

Cheerful, vibrant, and always smiling, she was known as the kind of bride who lit up every room and danced joyfully through her wedding celebrations.

Within less than five months, that same young woman is now dead. Her photographs are being circulated across television channels and newspaper front pages, as questions surrounding her death continue to intensify.

What began as a love marriage has now turned into a case marked by allegations and dispute.

Twisha Sharma reportedly met Samarth Singh through a dating application, and the relationship soon progressed to marriage. Their wedding was celebrated on a grand scale, with music, dance, and active participation from relatives and friends. In several wedding videos, Twisha can be seen smiling and enjoying the ceremonies, appearing unaware of the events that would unfold in the months ahead.

Questions are now being raised about how a relationship that began with mutual consent and affection in an urban, educated setting ended in such circumstances. Twisha Sharma, a former Miss Pune and MBA graduate, came from an ambitious academic and professional background. Her husband, Samarth Singh, is a lawyer, while his mother, Giribala Singh, is a retired judge.

Her family is reportedly devastated by the loss. Her mother is said to be in deep shock, while her father is struggling with grief and has turned his focus toward seeking justice.

Early signs of tension

According to Twisha Sharma's father, Navnidhi Sharma, the initial issues within the marriage were not seen as serious.

"At first, we did not think it was anything major. We assumed it was a matter of attitude that would improve over time. Even Twisha did not escalate it and believed she was at fault," he told NDTV.

He further stated that signs of strain appeared soon after the wedding.

He alleged that during their honeymoon travel to Vietnam, the couple missed their flight after Twisha reportedly misread the timings. He claimed that an argument followed at the airport and that Samarth pushed her, though the matter was later dismissed within the family as a one-off incident.

However, according to him, the situation gradually worsened over time.

Claims of assurances and household tension

The family has also alleged that Twisha was repeatedly told the couple could relocate and start afresh if issues arose, but that this was never implemented.

Navnidhi Sharma alleged that Samarth's behaviour changed over time and that tensions within the household increased. He also claimed that his daughter-in-law, Giribala Singh, often spoke in a harsh and dominating manner.

Giribala Singh has denied all allegations following Twisha Sharma's death. She has also made public statements referring to Twisha's mental health and alleged substance use. Audio clips that surfaced later reportedly include conversations in which Twisha's past relationships were questioned. Chat records have also been cited in discussions surrounding concerns raised about her personal life, further escalating the controversy.

Twisha's parents have accused her husband and in-laws of harassment linked to dowry-related demands, mental cruelty, and sustained domestic conflict.

"These messages being circulated in the media represent only a small part of what my daughter went through," her father said.

He also alleged that there were indirect demands involving gifts and financial expectations, which the family says they refused.

Changing behaviour after marriage

The family claims that Samarth's behaviour toward Twisha and her parents changed soon after the wedding. According to her father, he maintained minimal communication with the family and remained emotionally distant.

Twisha Sharma, too, reportedly reduced contact with friends and family over time. Her father said this was initially attributed to adjustments after marriage, but later appeared concerning.

He added that her emotional state appeared to deteriorate, even as she attempted to maintain normalcy during family occasions.

Before her death, Twisha allegedly told her father that she felt trapped.

"Phas gayi hu (I am stuck)," she is reported to have said.

On the day of the incident, her father recalled receiving a distressed phone call from her. He said the conversation was abruptly cut off after another voice was heard in the background, and shortly afterwards, the family was informed of her death.

Investigation status

The case related to Twisha Sharma's death has been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation for further inquiry.

The family has said they are seeking a fair and evidence-based investigation, while continuing to cope with the loss.
