Shivamogga: An 85-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with a single-barrel gun at Tattekodlu village near Nittur in Hosanagara taluk.

The deceased has been identified as Ramachandra Rao (85). According to reports, the impact of the gunshot was severe, causing fatal head injuries and resulting in his death on the spot.

According to the preliminary investigation by police, Ramachandra Rao had suffered a head injury after an accidental fall three days ago. Though he underwent treatment at a local hospital, he was reportedly continuing to experience severe pain.

Police suspect that he may have taken the extreme step due to his inability to bear the pain. However, the exact reason for the incident is yet to be confirmed.

Officers from the Hosanagara Police Station visited the spot and have registered a case. An investigation is underway.

Police are also examining how the elderly man managed to operate the firearm and whether the gun used in the incident was legally licensed.
