New Delhi: A vaccine developed by American companies Moderna and Merck to prevent the spread of cancer has shown success in its final stage of clinical trials.
Scientists have stated that this vaccine holds promise in preventing the growth and spread of cancer cells.
The company stated that the vaccine was tested on 1,137 patients suffering from skin cancer and yielded successful results. When administered in combination with Merck's immunotherapy drug "Keytruda," the vaccine successfully prevented cancer cells from recurring.
This is an RNA-based vaccine tailored individually based on each patient's tumor. It boosts the patient's immune system to specifically target and destroy cancer cells. While currently developed for skin cancer, reports suggest it will be expanded to treat other types of cancer in the future.
