Vijayapura: Vijayapura police have arrested 12 accused in connection with the murder of six people that took place in Govindpur village of Chadachan taluk in the Bhima river region on Friday (May 29).
District Superintendent of Police Lakshman Nimbargi said the accused were produced before the Indi court on Monday (June 1) and have been taken into police custody for further interrogation.
During the police investigation into the Govindpur murder case, the main accused were identified and a total of 12 people, including Mahasiddha Shrimant Biradar, Layappa Nenappa Biradar and Kallanagouda Eshwargouda Patil, were arrested.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mahasiddha Shrimant Biradar, Mahesh Lakshman Biradar, Rajkumar Siddaram Koli, Raju Chandrakant Ugar, Yallappa Mahadev Arakeri, Kallanagouda Eshwargouda Patil, Layappa Nenappa Biradar, Subhash Mahasiddha Biradar, Ravasab Avadhoot Biradar, Gajanand Bhutale Biradar, Malkari Hanamant Koli and Sanju Mahadev Arakeri.
Case details
Six people were brutally hacked to death with deadly weapons on Friday in connection with a land dispute in Govindpur village.
Those killed were Dundappa Revan Siddappa Nirale (65), Shivaputra Revan Siddappa Nirale (58), Chandrakant alias Chandu Revansiddappa Nirale (55), Rahul Shivaputra Nirale (25), Samarth Shivaputra Nirale (23), all belonging to the same family from Chadachan town, and Shabbir Babusab Attar (45) of Chadachan.
Aravind Katagi of Dusur village and JCB driver Sandeep Mane of Katral village were injured in the incident.
The dispute reportedly arose after members of the Nirale family purchased around 25 acres of land belonging to the family of Shashikant Teli, who had been convicted in a murder case. Police had formed special teams to trace the accused, who had gone into hiding after the murders.
