Kottigehara: Frustrated by the poor condition of the road and the alleged inaction of authorities, villagers repaired potholes at their own expense on the road leading to Devaramane, one of Chikkamagaluru district's most popular tourist destinations.
Devaramane Hill attracts thousands of tourists from across Karnataka, especially on weekends. However, the approach road has deteriorated significantly, with large potholes making travel difficult and unsafe.
Due to the damaged road, vehicles are forced to move slowly, resulting in long traffic jams during weekends. Tired of waiting for government intervention, local residents voluntarily carried out repair work using their own funds.
Among those who participated in the repair work were Sajith, Taranath Adhunik, Satish, Ranjith and Veeresh.
Local resident Gautam Kogile said it was unfortunate that the road to a major tourist destination had been allowed to deteriorate.
"Hundreds of vehicles use this road every day. Despite repeated appeals, no permanent repair work has been undertaken. To ensure the safety of the public and smooth movement of vehicles, we repaired the road ourselves. The concerned department should permanently develop this road at the earliest," he said.
